I’ve had a facebook account for quite some time now. At first, I thought it was great. It’s an easy way to keep in touch with people who you wouldn’t otherwise see, and I was addicted to taking photos and uploading album after album. It used to be fun, back when it was simple.

In late 2008, Facebook changed their layout to make more room for ad space. A lot of people hated this, but I actually liked the change. It meant no more scrolling down through 7483420 stupid applications to get to someone’s wall. Everything was clean and much more organised. I loved it.

Then, slowly, Facebook added the ability to comment on everything. I remember I had a huge shock when somebody commented on a wall post I’d made – I thought I had posted it as a status by mistake! Then there was the “Like” feature. In theory, it was pretty neat: it was an easy way to show someone that you enjoyed their album/note/status without having to think of something to actually say. But the notifications about someone liking your status or someone commenting on something you liked (but, hey, you can’t even remember having liked it)? Not so much. Plus there’s the fact that I’ve clicked “Like” on the most inappropriate things – like “X is now single!” Oops. “Hey, X, guess what? Clem, who you barely know but

whom you’re Facebook ‘friends’ with, likes that you broke up with your boyfriend! Isn’t she sweet?”

And then there are the quizzes.

I don’t think these quizzes need much more explanation. They suck. They spam your news feed – “Y is going to get married on July 21, 2010 at the age of 17! ISN’T THAT AWESOME AND ROMANTIC!” “Z’s inner pizza is PEPPERONI OMG LIKE YOU CARE AT ALL!!!” “A’s inner Twilight character is Bella Swan! WOW! A SURE HAS A STELLAR PERSONALITY, CLEM!!” They also spam your notifications. You log onto Facebook and you have 5 notifications. Oh, that’s cool. Maybe your best friend wrote on your wall or tagged you in a photo. … Oh, okay, no. Someone you don’t know took a quiz that you can’t even remember taking. Your friend worked on your farm in Farm Town (an application which you have long since abandoned). You’ve unlocked another item in Send a Jonas, which you definitely didn’t install. And, to make everything worse, each quiz is an individual application, so to stop these notifications you’d have to delete each application.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought this was Facebook… not Spambook.

My life lately has been complete insanity. It’s either one of two extremes: being manic and crazed and busy, or incredibly antsy, bored and unstimulated.

Dear blog,

Though I may have neglected you I have not forgotten you. You’ve been on my mind (maybe even more than I’d like to admit) and I am awfully sorry if you’ve felt like you weren’t a priority.

.Because you are! I have no idea why, but at some point during the past couple of years, sharing my world with the world became a part of who I am and even though I am not very good at it, I have decided to continue with it.

I have no actual idea of what it is that I want from you and I have no idea how I am going to get it either, but I am sure that getting started will be better than waiting for the best concept, the best layout. I need to get on my feet (well, it might actually be easier to do sitting down..) and start working on this instead of planning this great site that I don’t have the experience to make.
